Description From the Newberry Library Catalogue: Copy of Ixtlilxóchitl’s Relaciones, compiled from native sources and containing various historical accounts of ancient Mexico, from the earliest origens of the Indians and the development of their empires to the Spanish Conquest. The Sumaria relación de todas las cosas begins with the legends of creation of the four suns, and discusses the establishment, development, and fall of the empires of the Toltecs and, later, the Chichimecs, as described in the section Historia de los señores chichimecas. Appended to the Sumaria relación are 7 documents dealing with the deeds of Nezahualcoyotl and Nezahualpilli; the arrival of the Spaniards in New Spain, and their entrance into Texcoco. Also included is the account known as Relación sucinta en forma de memorial, a brief version of the historical events of the Sumaria relación with includes other accounts of the Toltecs and Chichimecs. The Sumaria relación de la historia general de esta Nueva España narrates the history of Mexico from its origens to the reign of Nezahualcoyotl, including as well some material on Nezahualpilli and his descendants; and Fernando Cortés Ixtlilxóchitl, one of the author’s ancestors and an ally of Cortés during the Conquest, who claimed to be the first Indian to be baptized. The last section contains three related documents not written by Ixtlilxóchitli: judicial testimony concerning the conduct of Nuño de Guzmán; a sentence handed down in a case involving property of the estate of Doña Isabel Moctezuma; and an account by the cacique Don Francisco Acazitli of services rendered on behalf of the viceroy Mendoza, signed by Pedro Vazquez, who translated the account from Nahuatl to Spanish.
