Description From the Newberry Library Catalogue: April 30, 1853, letter from Secretary of War Davis, written soon after his assumption of office, to Secretary of the Interior Robert McClelland, requesting a meeting regarding Texas Indian policy. Davis was conferring with army generals David E. Twiggs (commander of the Western Division) and Persifor Smith (commander of Military Dept. No. 8) about Texas, and wanted McClelland to join the discussion.
