Author Legoff, Laurent (1840-1932)
Document Type Correspondence
Description From the Newberry Library Catalogue: Note, probably from 1890, to Père Garin of the Order of Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate [in Lowell, Mass.?], from Laurent Legoff, OMI, a member of the same order, concerning Garin’s request for copies of Legoff’s works in the Montagnais (Chipewyan) language. The ms. note has been scribbled on the bottom of the last page of a 4-page printed fundraising letter, dated July 14, 1889 at the Eglise St. Pierre in Montréal, in which Père Legoff solicits contributions to help fund the printing of his Montagnais grammar and his Histoire de l’Ancien-Testament, also in Montagnais. In his note, Legoff promises Garin copies of his books, and encourages him to persuade Catholics in the Indian offices of the U.S. government in Washington to make donations for the printing of other works by Legoff in the Montagnais language.
